This handmade eagle carving was made from moose antler by Iroquois artist Ron Curley at Six Nations in Ontario in the mid-1990s. Moose antlers have a natural shape that mimics an eagle in flight. For many years, this was one of my prized possessions. I bought it shortly after starting my business in 1995. It has always been one of my favorite carvings. Like many Native American arts and crafts, Iroquois masks are becoming more difficult to obtain with each passing year. When I do find some, I buy every one I can get. These masks have not been blessed or used in religious ceremonies. Common snapping turtles are not on the U.S. Endangered Species List. They are, however, subject to CITES. They were added to CITES Appendix III on November 21, 2016. Not for export outside of the United States.
