The goat rawhide is thin and therefore ideal for making smaller hand drums, lamp shades, and craft projects. The pieces are very clean and are not full of holes. The weight varies somewhat from skin to skin. If you need a very thin piece or a heavier piece, let us know. Also, there is variation in the hides from light to dark, so that some of the natural hides may look bleached. We will do our best to accommodate small quantities. For orders of six or more skins, the rawhide will be shipped as a run with varying weights.
The large rawhides average between 33" to 44" long and 24" to 28" wide across the middle.
The bleached goat rawhide does not have hair on and is ideal for making furniture, lamp shades, drums, and other craft projects. It is a nice white. Bleached rawhide is a slightly heavier weight than regular rawhide. The bleached rawhide that is coded as R-55-51 is a cleaner white than the R-55-50 bleached rawhides.
Rawhide is also referred to as parchment or vellum.
The goat rawhide comes rolled. Individual pieces are shipped in heavy, cardboard tubes. For large orders (minimum 100 pieces), it is possible to offer the rawhide and bleached rawhide flat in boxes instead of rolled. This is a custom order item. Please allow 6-8 weeks for shipments of flat rawhide.
Goats are not an endangered species. The skins are a by-product of the food industry. The goats are not killed just for their skins.
