These are the tumbled edges of African abalone shells. They are also called lips, spikes or rims. They can be used in shell crafts and make perfect trim on mirrors as shown in the pictures. The creamy white shell lips are either treated with hydrogen peroxide or bleached.
The large pieces are typically 12 cm and longer or 4.5" and longer. For reference, we counted 48 pieces in one sample bag of large lips. Please allow 20% +/- as these are natural products and the counts will vary.
You will get a selection similar to the one shown.
The lips are sold by the kilogram or approximately two-pound bags. We counted two bags at random and found 48 pieces in one bag and 49 in another. Counts can vary by up to 20% depending upon the size of the shell used.
Our African abalone shells come from sustainable sources. The shells are a by-product of the food industry.
A USFWS export permit is required for all shipments outside the USA.
