These are the tumbled edges of African abalone shells that have been dyed turquoise. They are also called lips, spikes, or rims. They can be used in shell crafts and make perfect trim on mirrors as shown in the pictures.
The medium pieces are typically 10 to 12 cm long or 4" to 4.5".
You will get a selection similar to the one shown.
The lips are priced by the gram. They come in 1 kilogram bags but can be sold in smaller quantities, i.e. 1/4 kilogram, 1/2 kilogram, or 3/4 kilogram bags. We counted two 1 kilogram bags at random and found 103 pieces in one bag and 105 in another. Counts can vary by up to 20% depending upon the size of the shell used.
Our African abalone shells come from sustainable sources. The shells are a by-product of the food industry.
A USFWS export permit is required for all shipments outside the USA.
