Abalone shells are often used for smudging ceremonies by the Native Americans in the United States and Canada.
These abalone shells have been lightly cleaned and disinfected and have had the edges brushed with a diamond-edged grinding wheel to knock off the sharp edges. They are not as nicely prepared as our cleaned and edged African abalone shells, but are ideal for use in economy smudge pot kits.
Expect a mix of sizes averaging around 4”. Some shells may be as small as 3” with others as big as 5”. We offer these as an unsorted run of sizes.
We measured one shell to be 4" long by 3" wide, with a depth of 0.5" and weighing 45 grams.
They are a by-product of the food industry. The shells come from sustainably raised cultivated abalone at on-shore farms in South Africa.
