On the cow skins, there are variations in the thickness of the skin. The neck is very thick and the bellies are thinner. The cow rawhide was de-haired, cured, stretched, and dried. They come rolled up.
The Sides (half hides) average between 17 and 20 square feet. The Thick rawhides are 2-2.5 mm thick thick. However, the thickness does vary from disc to disc so if you need a particular thickness for your rawhide, please check with us beforehand. One natural thick SIDE cow hide measured 94" long by 34" wide.
Rawhide is also referred to as parchment or vellum.
Cows are not an endangered species. The rawhide is a by-product of the food industry. The cows are not killed just for the skin.
