The Select Grade ermine skins we offer are select soft-cased skins that have a nice natural white color without extensive yellowing, holes, or short tails. We measure from the tip of the nose to the end of the tail (i.e., the entire length of the skin and tail). They do not have the feet and claws attached.
If you want to make something using the ermine skins, the useable material on 13/14" skins is approximately 1.25" to 1.5" wide on the back for prime material and is about 8.25" to 8.5" from behind the ears to the butt. There are approximately 10" to 12" square inches of prime material per skin. If you use the sides and bellies, you can sew the leg holes shut and almost double the useable material. The bellies, however, can be a bit weaker in fur coverage, have a bit of yellowing, and/or have hints of brown, so take this into account when doing your calculations.
Ermine are not an endangered species.
